BEKAH STEIMEL // Three Untitled Poems
1.

Have you ever watched a sunflower
track the sun?
they move in unison
just as lovers do
just as I follow you
the sunflower has never once
turned her face away
even during the brightest
most blinding
part of the day
she hangs her head
when the sun disappears
just as I’ve been staring
at the ground for years

2.

I speak of you
as if you are forever gone
kidnapped by Death
not whisked away by geography
you are the only one
the only woman
who haunts me
while still breathing
while still living
while still loving
and kissing
so many lips except mine

3.

I’m always waiting
for the kicking in
to begin
you’ve never really
felt your blood
until you can feel nothing else
it’s a ten minute tutorial
on the subject
of patience
from taste to takeoff
six hundred seconds
separating
the pop
from the first pulse
of pleasure
I’m always waiting
for the kicking in
to begin
shuffling around aimlessly
counting
from one to ten
